  • Overview

    Experienced, cross-functionally skilled engineer responsible for Systems Engineering efforts associated with mobile and connected cloud applications for use with ZOLL's defibrillator/patient monitoring product lines. Primary responsibilities include requirements definition, system level architecture/design, and integration of internal and external software development activities.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Works with Project/Program management and internal and external software development resources to establish and refine system level requirements for cross-platform mobile applications.
    • Contributes to translation of customer experiences and product features into the capabilities that must be provided across ZOLL’s product platforms to deliver a connected product experience.
    • Ensures that new product architecture meets system level requirements, is appropriately featured, robust, and adaptable enough to support product lifecycle plans and objectives.
    • Contributes to the system level risk management activities associated with assigned programs.
    • Refine the feature requirements of new product definitions to be compatible with a multi-platform development environment.
    • Explore and clearly define the gaps between current platform capabilities, and capabilities needed to realize new features.
    • Work with various engineers and architects within the platforms and products teams to improve our adoption of industry best practices for security.
    • Understand system issues spanning app, cloud and embedded firmware domains and an ability to make system level design tradeoffs and decisions.
    • Researches and documents the relationships between clinical requirements, architectural decisions, performance requirements, and product evolution plans
    • As member of the System Engineering team, provides input to engineering teams regarding system engineering principles and system level requirements of ZOLL products.
    • Participates in decision-making processes that involve changes to the system level design of existing products.

     

    Qualifications

    • The ideal candidate will have familiarity with several development technologies and platforms, and have experience with native and cross platform mobile application development.
    • Ability to contribute in translating high level product requirements into system and sub­ system level specifications and designs.
    • System thinker with excellent understanding of software system architecture, communications technologies and connected systems architecture, operating system fundamentals, API designs, and system security.
    • Understanding of the effect of system design decisions on verification activities and sustaining level of effort.
    • Knowledge in the following areas: TCP/IP network protocols, RESTful APIs, Bluetooth & BLE.
    • Understanding of IoT trends, connectivity, and products.
    • Highly collaborative and able to work as part of a cross-functional team.
    • Knowledge in best practices for implementing security in connected consumer products.
    • Some understanding of product development and engineering project management processes.
    • Some experience with and sensitivity to human factors issues associated with the use of medical devices is helpful.
    • Some knowledge and experience developing products under FDA and European Community medical device regulations and standards is helpful.
    • Good verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrated success in technical decision making in a matrix environment.

     

    Required/ Preferred Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering including training and experience in systems, electronics, and software engineering. Master's degree in Engineering is a plus.
    • 7+ years' experience developing electronic hardware and embedded software systems, and mobile applications for connected environments
    • Experience with medical device development and biomedical signal acquisition helpful.
