Job Summary:

The Sr. Manager, Mechanical Engineering will work to coordinate task assignments of the mechanical engineering staff with the various development and sustaining projects within the R&D Department. Responsibilities include assignment tracking, technical direction, design reviews, performance reviews, and career development. The role will entail administrative tasks, as well, such as budget/expenditure planning and tracking, logistics support, vendor interaction, and departmental improvements. In addition to intradepartmental duties, there will be substantial interdepartmental support including Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Service, and Regulatory Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a functional group of approximately 10 mechanical engineering staff of varying levels of experience & expertise. Some staff will be in remote locations, potentially international locations.
  • Provide technical mentoring, assist in career development, coordinate training, track and administer time-off requests, and create and deliver performance reviews.
  • Assist in project planning with project managers and Program Directors.
  • Partner with multiple project managers and program directors and of Software, Electrical, and Design Quality groups to assess resource needs.
  • Operate in a matrix managed structure. Manage the allocation of ME engineering staff across multiple projects of varying size, length and prioritization.
  • Work with mechanical engineers to assess tasks and track progress.
  • Manage the quality of the mechanical design deliverables across projects including the review of technical specifications, design documentation, and test reports that support mechanical designs.
  • Develop and maintain best practices documentation and training for mechanical engineers.
  • Conduct budget/expenditure planning and tracking, logistics support, and vendor interaction.
  • Provide cross-functional interdepartmental support to include: Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Service, and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Review manufacturing and customer issues to plan and help prioritize technical responses.
  • Oversee mechanical engineering tool selection, implementation, maintenance, and training of engineers across development programs.
  • Some travel, 10 to 15% will be required, including interacting with other corporate offices, customers, vendors, and test facilities.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of progressive advancements in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • Technical experience and expertise across the spectrum of mechanical engineering fabrication processes, including plastic injection molding, machining, sheet metal fabrication, wire harnesses assembly (discrete and flex wiring), and cable assembly overmolding.
  • Experience in electro-mechanical assembly design using advanced CAD modeling tools (SolidWorks preferred), including tolerance and finite element analysis.
  • Development experience in a regulated industry setting, including the ability to interpret and apply international safety and performance standards (e.g., IEC 60601-1).
  • Strong root cause and analysis skills

Required/ Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
  • Advanced engineering degree preferred
  • 10+ years in development of mechanical engineering for electro-mechanical embedded medical devices
  • 3+ years of leadership experience on a mechanical engineering team.
